General Dentistry Endorses Aloe Vera Gel For Teeth

Posted by: Elizabeth  /  Category: Aloe Products, Forever Living Products

May/June 2009 issue of General Dentistry

From DrWeil.com:

“Aloe vera gel can soothe burned skin, take the itch out of bug bites and help treat rashes from poisonous plants. It also appears to be good for your teeth.

A study published in the May/June 2009 issue of General Dentistry found that aloe vera gel worked as well as regular toothpaste to clean teeth and eliminate cavity-causing bacteria. What’s more, the study showed that the gel isn’t as hard on the teeth as abrasive toothpastes so may be better for folks with sensitive teeth or gums.

However, one of the authors of the study warned that not all aloe vera gel will work – you need the kind that contains the stabilized gel located in the center of the aloe vera plant and that hasn’t been treated with excessive heat or filtered during manufacturing. One of the study authors notes that such processing destroys or reduces the effects of some essential enzymes and polysaccharides.

To find a good aloe vera tooth gel, the researchers suggested checking with the International Aloe Science Council to review the products that have received its seal of quality.”

(Forever Living Products’ aloe has the IASC seal of quality.)

Onions for the flu?

Posted by: Elizabeth  /  Category: Cold and Flu

I recently received an email that was in reference to onions helping with flu and colds.  I wanted to share it with you.

I didn’t write it…I’m just forwarding it. But after all….what could it hurt. I’d rather have an onion than to have the flu!

Make your own judgement I know as a kid mom would fry an onion and smear the grease over our chest and throat we never had a cold last more then a few days and got over it quicker then our friends.

Just think how good we’d smell …..

In 1919 when the flu killed 40 million people there was this Doctor that visited the many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their family had contracted it and many died.

The doctor came upon this one farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the farmer was doing that was different the wife replied that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the home, (probably only two rooms back then). The doctor couldn’t believe it and asked if he could have one of the onions and place it under the microscope. She gave him one and when he did this, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It obviously absorbed the bacteria, therefore, keeping the family healthy.

Now, I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several bowls with onions around in her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff got sick. It must work.. (And no, she is not in the onion business..)

The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu.

If this helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you do get the flu, it just might be a mild case..

Whatever, what have you to lose? Just a few bucks on onions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a P. S. to this for I sent it to a friend in Oregon who regularly contributes material to me on health issues. She replied with this most interesting experience about onions:

Weldon, thanks for the reminder. I don’t know about the farmers story…but, I do know that I contacted pneumonia and needless to say I was very ill….I came across an article that said to cut both ends off an onion put one end on a fork and then place the forked end into an empty jar…placing the jar next to the sick patient at night. It said the onion would be black in the morning from the germs…sure enough it happened just like that…the onion was a mess and I began to feel better.

Another thing I read in the article was that onions and garlic placed around the room saved many from the black plague years ago. They have powerful antibacterial, antiseptic properties.

I have a bag of onions in my pantry.  My son has been fighting this flu/cold thing for over 2 weeks now.  I’m placing an onion in his room and conducting my own experiment.  I just might place one in each room and see what happens.  I think I’ll do the onion with the fork just to see if it turns black.

Everyone get your onions out.  It would be much cheaper than a doctors visit.

This is a book I would recommend to others.  It is full of easy recipes with normal ingredients you have around your house.  If you are looking for fancy recipes this is not the cookbook for you.  If you are looking for easy and practical recipes this is your book.

I’ve tried some of the recipes in this book.  I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to make.  I made Microwave Mint Fudge, Tex Mex Dip, and Taco Casserole.  I am looking forward to making the Chicken Cacciatore crock pot meal and the Creamy Potato Soup.

If you know of anyone getting married or you need a secret santa gift you should consider this cookbook.

A Taste Of Fame–Review

Posted by: Elizabeth  /  Category: Books I've Read

I am very happy I chose this book to review when the opportunity was presented to me.  It was amazing that 2 authors worked on this book, but yet you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other picked up.  It all flowed together as if one person was writing.

These 6 ladies, Lisa Leann, Goldie, Evie, Vonnie, Lizzie, and Donna started out as a prayer club and grew into a catering club.  In A Taste Of Fame they find themselves the subject of a budding filmmakers class project.  They forgot to read the fine print and found themselves entered into a reality show, “The Great Party Showdown” in the Big Apple.

If you are a fan of cooking and reality shows you really need to get this book and read it.  These are real women trying to hold it together advancing through the different weekly challenges while their lives are displayed for 30 million people to see and being sabotaged.

A Taste of Fame by Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson
ISBN: 978-0-8007-3209-7
September 2009, $13.99

The Potluck Catering Club that these six friends started is already a growing business when a budding filmmaker decides to cast them for a class project. For fun, they agree. That is, until they realize that he has entered his documentary in a new reality show “Great Party Showdown”—and they actually get picked for the show, taking the ladies of Summit View, Colorado, to the Big Apple for the unexpected adventure of their lives. Between navigating New York City, dealing with other cutthroat contestants, and trying to maintain their close friendship in the high-stress world of reality TV, the Potluck women must keep their eyes on the prize—a cool million dollars—and work together if they’re going to make it back to Colorado in one piece.

A Taste of Fame serves up the perfect blend of humor, misadventure, and mouth-watering recipes. Fans new and old will love this exciting trip into the wild world of competitive cooking!

Linda Evans Shepherd and Eva Marie Everson are award-winning authors, successful speakers, radio personalities, and avid readers of fiction. They are the popular authors of The Potluck Club, The Potluck Club—Trouble’s Brewing, The Potluck Club—Takes the Cake, and The Secret’s in the Sauce.  They’ve also led numerous Bible studies and women’s retreats and still find time to be wives and mothers. A Different Kind Of Wild Is Your Faith Too Tame?

By: Debbie Alsdorf

Published by Revell/Baker Publishing

$12.99  ISBN 978-0-8007-3366-7

Don’t let the name of the book fool you.  A Different Kind Of Wild stands for Women In Lifelong Development.  A new way of life.

This is a 3 part book.  Developing (Growing Up Spiritually), Daring (Living by a Different Standard) and Determinded (FindingCourage to Folow a New Path).  This book is easy to read with a flowing format.  Each chapter was well written with recaps at the end and questions for reflection.

A Different Kind Of Wild also has a study guide which would make the book good for a woman’s Bible study group.  The book has an important message.  Everything you need is right in the book to complete this new way of living.

I have to admit I don’t usually read to many books with scripture in them, but I did really enjoy A Different Kind Of Wild.  I would recommend it to others like myself who want to grow spiritually.  You can learn how not to be led by your emotions and circumstances and learn to live with confidence.
